Private Beach News

Final work on the 15,000 sq ft Private Beach facility wraps up this month. Planning began after Hurricane Ian, with construction starting in June 2024. About 40 inspections are scheduled through July, with opening expected in August 2025.

Pickleball Courts at Riverwalk Park

The LDO is ready for submittal, with City review taking up to 90 days. Construction is expected to begin mid-October and take 60 days. Reopening is projected for December. The $500,000+ project is funded through the 2025 budget, reserves, and surplus.

Stormwater Swales at Bay Harbor

Swales #38 and #39 require major restoration. Final surveys are complete, and the project is under SFWMD review. A site inspection is set for August. Work is expected to begin in October, with bidding underway. Town halls are anticipated to provide resident awareness.

Lake 21 Remediation at Wedgewood

Due to severe erosion, restoration plans are under review by the City and SFWMD. Work is expected to start end of July and take six weeks.

Commercial Gate Project

The LDO was submitted in May and is under 90-day review. Bidding is in progress. Construction is expected to begin in August and last about six weeks. The project will improve gate traffic flow and reduce backups on US 41 during peak season.

Bonita Bay Wildlife Rescue

Residents can now report injured animals by calling the Bonita Bay Call Center at 239-947-2476. The Call Center records the details and alerts Critter Courier volunteers, who rescue and transport animals to von Arx Wildlife Hospital in Naples or Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Fort Myers. This program supports Bonita Bay’s commitment to living in harmony with nature. To date, approximately 40 native animals have been rescued and cared for, many of which were successfully released back into the community.

Stormwater System Cleanup

As part of the 2025 Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) drainage inspections, a Stormwater System Cleanup project was approved to address sediment and debris buildup in identified pipes, with an estimated cost of $72,800.

2025 Board of Directors Election

The board approved election committee recommendations to shorten the election timeline to 138 days from committee formation to announcement, decrease the public-facing nomination period by 24 days, and streamline candidate video interviews. The committee also recommended limiting advanced questions for candidate interviews to one pre-submitted question plus 3-4 additional questions during the interview.

Riverwalk Park Docks Renovation

Plans for the renovation of the Riverwalk Park Docks were approved by the Board, calling for the replacement of 31 existing slips with a boardwalk, floating dock, and two gazebos. Discussions are ongoing regarding the potential transfer of slip rights to the Bonita Bay Marina to support its storage expansion.

2025 Owner Survey for 2040 Vision Project

The Board approved a survey to gather owner input on the existing 2040 Vision strategic plan. This feedback will help prioritize which areas of the plan are most important to the community as it moves forward.

Proposed Private Beach Facility Policy

The policy for the Private Beach facility was discussed by the Board, with topics such as access, beach capacity, and reservation procedures under consideration. The policy remains under review and development.
